“Cherished Customer” Negro buying gas near Atlanta, Georgia.

Photos like this were shocking to many Georgians: Jim Crow was still strongly in place at the time, and for rural Georgians to see an image of young black men driving a nice automobile was quite revolutionary. I’m not sure why Post Wolcott chose to place “Cherished Customer” in quotation marks, though it begs further investigation.
